The Velanaura Campaign Setting

The World of the Mortal Guardians

War of Dominion

The last of the Early Ages of Velanaura was one of cataclysmic conflict between the gods of the world and their many followers. Deities warred with one another striving to claim each other’s faith dominions—often referred to as “portfolios”—and the battles of this age were nothing short of catastrophic. Mortals were constantly endangered by the unimaginable powers of the gods as they and their mighty servants raised armies and clashed in skirmishes that laid waste to entire civilizations.

Concord Divine

The War of Dominion raged on for eons, a ceaseless battle among gods and devils for dominance over mortal faiths and the vast portfolios of divine power. It was only through the efforts of a coalition of the most powerful deities and infernal lords that the carnage was finally quelled. Together, they forged a binding contract of unparalleled strength, sealing all divine beings into immutable limits: no god could hold dominion over a portfolio or faith that contradicted their essence. A deity of chaos, for example, would be forever barred from domains of law and order, and those who defied this principle lost such domains instantly, never to reclaim or influence them again.

Rebellion inevitably followed. Yet, the coalition in favor of this Concord vastly outmatched those who opposed it, crushing resistance with swift, merciless force. In the astral currents of Vaelda Voxa, the Sea of Voices, the gods united their divine words to craft the Song of Harmony, the unbreakable law that would become known as the Concord Divine. Dynasties of faith crumbled in the wake of its declaration, and the final battles of the War of Dominion were fought with desperate ferocity. Many elder gods were unmade in its fires, and newly ascended divinities arose—bound all the same by the immutable decree.

The Concord Divine is an eternal axiom, woven from the voice and will of the divine, both empowering and constraining all who wield divinity. It ensures that gods and devils alike remain forever bound to their truest essence, shaping the faiths of mortals in alignment with their eternal nature—and none other.
